Bubblegum Roses

Today I went for a very casual outfit, which is also a combination of old and new, high end and hight street. This sweater is a new favorite of mine - I got it a few months ago at the H&M sale in Vegas almost for free... I've washed it several times since, and it really keeps its shape and color well. Love it! The light blue lurex scarf was a Christmas present from an old friend. The Giorgio Armani ballet flats have been a staple in my wardrobe for some time now (check out the same flats styled differently here). The black shorts are so old I'm embarrassed to tell you their age, but I'm so freakin' proud they still fit me after all those years (a size S, yay!). Oh, and the amazing graffitis in the background can be found in the city of Prato, Tuscany.

Striped Vintage Dress

We shot this at the convent of San Francesco in Fiesole, near Florence. It's an incredible place, famous both for its architectural and natural beauty. The wrap dress I'm wearing is from Wasteland in LA, and I'm so happy with it, especially considering the price I paid - somewhere around $80. I love that there's lots of fabric and some structure thanks to the belt. The only disadvantage is the very deep cleavage, which I always cover up with a basic black tank top.

CLASHING FLORALS

So these next pictures may look like I carefully organized my shooting afternoon and scouted a pair of perfectly trained Bernese mountain dogs for the occasion, but believe me, that's not the case. Me and my husband actually went to see  some friends at  Villa La Rugea yesterday, and these two super friendly dogs, who live there, insisted on being in my pictures. I promise you I didn't glue them to the ground, they participated absolutely voluntarily. It's the second time animals crash my shoot (check out the first one here), and I must say they are excellent models...

ICE CREAM TONES FOR FALL

Since summer weather is back in full swing here in Tuscany, I guess pastels and sorbet tones are not completely inappropriate, even if it's the end of September. I wore this outfit yesterday, and I think it's perfect for this time of the year - the heavy cotton of the dress and the light cotton cardigan protected me from the evening chill, but also kept me cool during the day. I sort of threw all the colors together without thinking too much about it, so there's a little bit of mint cotton, light pink, raspberry sorbet and peach leather and a little bit of sprinkles on top (I mean, the necklace). What do you all think?

Style vs. Comfort - The Eternal Dilemma

People often ask me why I sacrifice comfort for the sake of wearing 4-inch heels and pencil skirts. How can I, seemingly for no reason, torture myself with structured jackets, tight jeans, lace underwear, skirts of every kind, unthinkable shoes, and long hair that takes forever to wash and comb? How on Earth do I wear stiletto boots in winter, and most of all, why? And the ever repeating question: is it worth it?

BLACK & BLUSH

Today I needed a transition outfit that would take me from an afternoon walk to a casual dinner, and from the summer heat to the cooler evening temperatures.  I went for this blush pink plissé skirt with a simple black top, a leather jacket and cherry red strappy heels. It's a little "bad girl meets good girl", and I really enjoyed wearing it. What do you think?

LACE ON A RAINY DAY

So I didn't post for four days, because I somehow managed to drop my camera on the cobblestones and it sort of fell into pieces and did really strange things afterwards... I was already considering replacement options, but first I took it to my friend Federico Menici of MeniciFotografia, who fixed it with one magic touch. I don't know how he did it, but I'm soooo grateful!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Today's back-to-school inspired outfit is everything it probably shouldn't be: it's frilly and short and the accessories are pink and the shoes are way too kitsch... but I somehow feel it works. As the great Diana Vreeland once said, "A little bit of bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika". But you be the judge, tell me whatever you think about it in the comments below, I'm so curious :)

TOTAL WHITE + MINT GREEN HAT

Another summer look for these warm September days. This time I decided to go total white with a little colorful accent - my straw fedora. That hat is a miracle, let me tell you that! I bought it in the beginning of summer, so it travelled thousands of miles in my suitcase, squashed between my jeans and stiletto heels, it spent countless hot days on the dashboard of my car, it got sat on and stepped on, and it's still here, and as you can see, in pretty good shape! That's what I call an investment. (And it was only 25 dollars.)

ROCK BALLERINA

I know fall is here and some of you up North are already rocking gorgeous trenches and ankle boots, but the days are still warm (if not hot) and sunny here in Tuscany, so I still have a few weeks to wear light fabrics and flowy skirts. Today I went for a full-on ballerina look with the white skirt, black elastic ballet flats, stretchy black leotard and a classic bun. As you can see, I completed it with some (literally) heavy jewelry - a tangle of chains on my neck and a large black rose on my finger.

TRIKINI AND FLOPPY HAT - The Last Day of Summer

This summer, just like every summer in the history of humankind, went by way too fast. Although I was incredibly lucky to travel basically all the time, and see a lot of amazing, beautiful places, I feel like it still wasn't enough. It's never enough...
