Atitlan Leather - From Guatemala With Love

In a world of mass produced fashion and disposable clothing that will only last one season, it's good to know that artisans with a real knowledge of their trade still get the chance to produce and sell high quality fashion that is made to last.

Atitlan Leather, named after the breathtaking Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan Highlands has been created exactly for this purpose. You see, the Mayans who live in the area are very proud of their artisan work, and rightly so. However, often it does not provide them with a stable income to sustain their families, as sales rely mostly on seasonal tourism.

Atitlan Leather helps these artisans by facilitating the creation and worldwide distribution of their products, which addresses the seasonal nature of their work and helps them make a living by doing what they do best - creating wearable art. They make shoes, bags and leather accessories such as belts and wallets by hand and they can also customize the footwear for your exact measurements.

Stay tuned because in my next outfit post I will be wearing one of their gorgeous designs! :)
