The Huntress

urban outfitters necklace, bcbg hat

The outfit I wore today comes from a lot of different geographic locations, and from different seasons as well, but I'm so happy with how it came out. I guess I'm getting good at "building a wardrobe" (as opposed to just buying random pieces that I like). Or...

New Year's Eve Inspiration

Christmas is officially over, but the party is just getting started! New Year's Eve is just around the corner, and I can't be the only one who is obsessing over her outfit right now, so I thought I'd put together three inspirational looks for you guys. I played with different color palettes and textures to create outfits for different occasions. Take a look and see if you can incorporate some of the elements into your New Year's Eve ensemble. Let me know which one is your favorite!

Urban Casual

fall winter 2013 fashion

Today was a weirdly warm day for mid-December, and not Christmas-y at all, so I grabbed the occasion to wear my lightweight felt coat with a semi-transparent sweater and long-sleeved shirt underneath. I get compliments on this sweater all the time, and people are always so surprised to find out that I got it at

Birthday Post

"Torta dello Zio"

Today's post is a little different from the usual, since it was my birthday, yay! :) Me and hubs went out for a nice dinner at my favorite restaurant, I 13 Gobbi in Florence, and he presented me with the most wonderful of Damiani diamond rings, both of whom you can see in the pictures (the ring and the man, I mean), as well as some cake and Christmas decoration eye candy to feast your eyes upon. You have probably

Rosso Pummarola

red pea coat

I often wear sweater dresses in winter, because they make it so easy to get ready in the morning, plus it's a way to show some leg during the cold months, paired with some high-den opaque tights, of course. I like wearing a short body-con sweater dress with a longer coat and a pair of riding boots, to me it's the perfect casually elegant outfit which is also

Fuchsia Gloves

pink leather gloves

One of my favorite things fashion-wise is to wear a black/grey monochromatic look with one colorful accessory, which in winter is often a pair of leather gloves. This is my way of making an otherwise quite ordinary casual look more interesting. The boots I'm wearing are my go-to pair for a day of running errands, they are completely flat and really comfy (if you disregard the challenge of

Purple Bubble

italian fashion blogger

I probably should have called my blog "100 ways to wear black and purple". I'm honestly not doing this on purpose, but I noticed that my last 3 outfits are all featuring these colors. I guess purple is a second black for me, another neutral color I just kind of wear with everything... but mostly with black. Today I wore a black Karen Millen sweater dress, which is one of my

2014 Calendar

2014 fashion illustration calendar
January / Gennaio

I know I haven't been posting too much this week, but I've had a good excuse. I've been working on a little project of mine which I'm so excited to reveal to you. I have just published my 2014 fashion illustration calendar! Yay!

Trench and Fedora

Today I though I'd take my favorite purple trench coat out for a last walk this season, since it is quite possibly the last sunny day before an extra cold winter. I wear trench coats with both sneakers and high heels, depending on how casual I want to look. Today I paired it with

Leaves on Fire

italian fashion blogger

There are so many things I love about Tuscany. It's a beautiful land with great food, amazing wine and endless hills that in the fall turn into a firework of colors with patches of emerald green grass and cypresses.  The air smells of burning leaves and it is chilly, even though it looks sunny and warm when you look out your window.  Fashion-wise this means lots of cashmere,

5 Ways to Wear a Belted Coat

Today I'm taking you all on an imaginary shopping trip. I chose a simple belted Donna Karan coat, and created 5 different outfits that demonstrate how a well-chosen coat can be your faithful companion throughout the week, from a day at the office to a relaxed Sunday afternoon during the fall/winter season. Let me know which outfit is your favorite!

Badgley Mischka Bag and Riding Boots

italian fashion blogger

So today we were driving on the freeway from Florence to Empoli, and we decided to take some pictures before it got too dark. It had been raining pretty much the whole afternoon, so when it suddenly stopped, we took the first exit, and found ourselves in a grey little town with not much picture background-value...or so we thought.

A Game of Pool

As the weather changes I find myself wearing heavier make-up more often. I usually go for a natural kind of look with just a little bit of eye liner, mascara, compact foundation and blush, but in the fall and winter months I often wear a darker eye shadow and red lipstick even for day. It makes me feel more

Preppy and Proud

fendi spy bag

Today I wore a preppy look in fall colors - brown, olive green and midnight blue. Heavy fabrics, like the wool of the skirt and the velvet of the jacket are a must for fall, but fortunately it was still warm enough to go bare-legged. You might have noticed that I wear bodysuits/leotards quite a lot. I am huge fan of them, because 1. they keep me warm since they're so close to my body, 2. they are a great simple addition to any outfit that I don't want to overcomplicate, 3. they save me from embarrassing panty-flashing moments when I bend over or sit down in low-rise jeans. I have many of them in all kinds of colors, but mostly black, dark blue and heather grey. They go with everything, so practical...

Furry Cashmere Poncho

italian fashion blogger

Until now I was quite sceptical about weather forecasts predicting the coldest winter in the last 100 years, since the weather didn't get much colder than 22 degrees (71 F) in these last few weeks. But now I believe them. Today I woke up and there was this cold wind that gets to your bones and freezes your hands, so I put on my "hairy" cashmere poncho for the fist time this season, and I'm glad I did. I love how soft and cozy it is, the only disadvantage is having to take my hands out of the sleeves when going to the bar to have lunch or coffee to prevent the hairs from falling into my food... Otherwise, it's perfect.

Black and Purple - The Dilemma

italian fashion blogger

Let me start by saying that I love the combination of black and purple.  I find purple (and berry colors in general) a great colorful addition to an all-black outfit, but since it is still a dark color, it doesn't draw all the attention to itself, but instead nicely complements the look. However, this color combination seems to stir some controversy... When we shot this outfit, my husband politely informed me that black and purple are the customary colors for funerals in Italy (I ain't know nothin' about that, where I come from they wear black to funerals...) which totally shocked me, but didn't make me like this combination less. After shooting today's outfit I actually

November Rain

You might have already come across some of the pieces I'm wearing today in previous posts, but I like to play with combinations and style things differently, and besides, I am human, so I don't have an unlimited wardrobe ;) The scarf I'm wearing here is pretty much my go-to accessory when I feel like my outfit is lacking a feminine touch. I also wore it in this summer post. The skin tight jeans are also a basic which I build a lot of outfits upon, for example this one from earlier this fall.

A Gloomy Day

brown sapphire necklace

You know those grey and rainy fall days when you wear bright colors just to cheer yourself up and do your best to ignore the sad faces of the people on the street, so you get all dolled up and pretty and you instantly feel better about yourself and the world in general? Well, this wasn't one of those days for me. Instead, all I wanted to wear today was black and grey and baggy stuff, and let my hair hang loose and tangled and line my eyes with a heavy black kohl pencil so I can just blend into my surroundings and look just as gloomy and black as everything else around me. And that's just what I did. Please enjoy :)

Friday, October 25, 2013

I sort of took today off and spent it in bed recuperating from weeks of weird sleeping schedules, and in the kitchen making lemon veal scallops, hand cut potato chips and persimmon cake. I've definitely earned some domestic goddess points, but I didn't actually get dressed properly, which means there is no outfit post today. Instead I decided to share something else with you: a new arrival to our family - Cocco (Italian for 'coconut'), the maine coon kitten. His original name is Vladimir della Perla Blu, but I prefer Cocco - short and sweet. He is 3 months old, chirps like a bird, purrs like an engine, and already walks on a leash. How cool is that? ;) Stay tuned for my next outfit post - I'm changing my wardrobe to fall/winter this weekend (even though it's still 23 degrees during the day), so there will be boots and jackets and hats and all kinds of stuff.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Today's outfit is a game of different textures - the heavy velvet of the jacket, the leather effect skinny jeans, the flowy chiffon of the blouse, the suede of the boots, and the coarse python skin of the bag. They are so different, yet they work together to create an everyday look that is fun and elegant at the same time. I think we often underestimate the importance of textures, but the arrival of fall is a great occasion to experiment with new and unusual combinations.

Flowy Skirt and Ruffles in the Garden

Nothing like a flowy skirt and a ruffle blouse to make you feel super feminine and dressed up. The blouse and skirt I'm wearing here are made of very light and sheer cotton which I love, because it's comfortable to wear, but still dressy and elegant thanks to its transparent layers and lovely fall. In fact, I couldn't resist taking a few skirt tossing pictures which came out pretty cool :) I'd love to know what you think!

Business Casual for a Day in Forte dei Marmi

Another business casual look today - a simple blazer and pumps paired with casual grey jeans and a ruffled collar blouse to make the outfit a little more interesting and feminine. I wore this today on a business related trip to Forte dei Marmi. I rarely wear my hair in a low ponytail like this, but I thought I'd give it a try now that I have bangs. What do you think?

Open Back Sweater

This is a casual outfit I wore for a countryside trip yesterday. Me and hubs visited Villa La Gigliola in Montespertoli, where they will be shooting a new TV series he's producing, so we grabbed the occasion to take some a pictures, and also had a lovely home-cooked lunch with some amazing wine they make at the Villa. I wish all weekdays were like that...

NEW HAIRCUT - Bangs Bangs

Today I proudly present you my new haircut! I've had bangs before, once when I was like 10 (I don't remember that working out too well...) and last summer, which actually did work out and I loved them. Thankfully I have no problem growing them out, because I'm blessed with extremely fast-growing hair, so now I decided to repeat the experiment, and I'm quite pleased with the result. What do you think?

Vintage Croc and Beanie

Yesterday we moved into our new(est) place in the Tuscan countryside. It's calm and nice and quiet, and it's just a 20-minute drive from Florence. We are going to stay here for at least the next two months, which is sort of an achievement considering how much we usually move around... This new place has a lovely park, which I'm definitely going to use a lot for blogging purposes. Here's my first outfit post from the new location:

Guess What

I have been featured in Scarves&Wraps' article as one of the top 10 blogger looks of September 2013! Yay! It's actually pretty flattering, especially considering the company of 9 amazing fellow bloggers on the list.

A Walk In The Park - Sunday Outfit

This is what I wore for a walk in the Cascine Park in Florence on Sunday afternoon. I didn't think too much about this outfit, just threw a few things together to make it look casual, but not overly so, because I didn't know where we would end up later in the evening. The bag deserves a special mention: it is an espresso colored Badgley Mischka in the softest leather with a colored stone closure, and it's also practical. Jackpot.

FORMAL BUDGET LOOK - Blush in the Park

Today I challenged myself to create a high-end looking outfit on a budget (if you don't count the python bag). Me and hubs had a business lunch at the Four Seasons in Florence, and it was a good occasion to experiment with a formal look. Luckily it was a beautiful day today so I could wear this light chiffon blouse that I looove, and the same open toe shoes that I wore for this budget look, and this Vegas cocktail look. I kept myself to a nude color palette with the exception of my purple trench, which I only needed later in the afternoon. The Four Seasons has a beautiful park, as you can see, and we took advantage of all its hidden romantic places to shoot these pictures after our lunch. What do y'all think?

Bubblegum Roses

Today I went for a very casual outfit, which is also a combination of old and new, high end and hight street. This sweater is a new favorite of mine - I got it a few months ago at the H&M sale in Vegas almost for free... I've washed it several times since, and it really keeps its shape and color well. Love it! The light blue lurex scarf was a Christmas present from an old friend. The Giorgio Armani ballet flats have been a staple in my wardrobe for some time now (check out the same flats styled differently here). The black shorts are so old I'm embarrassed to tell you their age, but I'm so freakin' proud they still fit me after all those years (a size S, yay!). Oh, and the amazing graffitis in the background can be found in the city of Prato, Tuscany.

Striped Vintage Dress

We shot this at the convent of San Francesco in Fiesole, near Florence. It's an incredible place, famous both for its architectural and natural beauty. The wrap dress I'm wearing is from Wasteland in LA, and I'm so happy with it, especially considering the price I paid - somewhere around $80. I love that there's lots of fabric and some structure thanks to the belt. The only disadvantage is the very deep cleavage, which I always cover up with a basic black tank top.

Monday, September 23, 2013

So these next pictures may look like I carefully organized my shooting afternoon and scouted a pair of perfectly trained Bernese mountain dogs for the occasion, but believe me, that's not the case. Me and my husband actually went to see  some friends at  Villa La Rugea yesterday, and these two super friendly dogs, who live there, insisted on being in my pictures. I promise you I didn't glue them to the ground, they participated absolutely voluntarily. It's the second time animals crash my shoot (check out the first one here), and I must say they are excellent models...

Saturday, September 21, 2013

Since summer weather is back in full swing here in Tuscany, I guess pastels and sorbet tones are not completely inappropriate, even if it's the end of September. I wore this outfit yesterday, and I think it's perfect for this time of the year - the heavy cotton of the dress and the light cotton cardigan protected me from the evening chill, but also kept me cool during the day. I sort of threw all the colors together without thinking too much about it, so there's a little bit of mint cotton, light pink, raspberry sorbet and peach leather and a little bit of sprinkles on top (I mean, the necklace). What do you all think?

Style vs. Comfort - The Eternal Dilemma

People often ask me why I sacrifice comfort for the sake of wearing 4-inch heels and pencil skirts. How can I, seemingly for no reason, torture myself with structured jackets, tight jeans, lace underwear, skirts of every kind, unthinkable shoes, and long hair that takes forever to wash and comb? How on Earth do I wear stiletto boots in winter, and most of all, why? And the ever repeating question: is it worth it?

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Today I needed a transition outfit that would take me from an afternoon walk to a casual dinner, and from the summer heat to the cooler evening temperatures.  I went for this blush pink plissé skirt with a simple black top, a leather jacket and cherry red strappy heels. It's a little "bad girl meets good girl", and I really enjoyed wearing it. What do you think?

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

So I didn't post for four days, because I somehow managed to drop my camera on the cobblestones and it sort of fell into pieces and did really strange things afterwards... I was already considering replacement options, but first I took it to my friend Federico Menici of MeniciFotografia, who fixed it with one magic touch. I don't know how he did it, but I'm soooo grateful!

Saturday, September 7, 2013

Today's back-to-school inspired outfit is everything it probably shouldn't be: it's frilly and short and the accessories are pink and the shoes are way too kitsch... but I somehow feel it works. As the great Diana Vreeland once said, "A little bit of bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika". But you be the judge, tell me whatever you think about it in the comments below, I'm so curious :)

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Another summer look for these warm September days. This time I decided to go total white with a little colorful accent - my straw fedora. That hat is a miracle, let me tell you that! I bought it in the beginning of summer, so it travelled thousands of miles in my suitcase, squashed between my jeans and stiletto heels, it spent countless hot days on the dashboard of my car, it got sat on and stepped on, and it's still here, and as you can see, in pretty good shape! That's what I call an investment. (And it was only 25 dollars.)

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

I know fall is here and some of you up North are already rocking gorgeous trenches and ankle boots, but the days are still warm (if not hot) and sunny here in Tuscany, so I still have a few weeks to wear light fabrics and flowy skirts. Today I went for a full-on ballerina look with the white skirt, black elastic ballet flats, stretchy black leotard and a classic bun. As you can see, I completed it with some (literally) heavy jewelry - a tangle of chains on my neck and a large black rose on my finger.

TRIKINI AND FLOPPY HAT - The Last Day of Summer

This summer, just like every summer in the history of humankind, went by way too fast. Although I was incredibly lucky to travel basically all the time, and see a lot of amazing, beautiful places, I feel like it still wasn't enough. It's never enough...

How I Learnt to Love My Glasses

Glasses: Dior Homme

I was ten years old and the news turned my entire world upside down. After a routine eye examination the doctor casually told me that I had myopia and that I would need to wear glasses. I cried for days. That one sentence meant so many things: it meant having to give up the hope of ever being the cool girl at school (because cool kids don't wear glasses), it meant becoming that girl with the glasses instead of that pretty girl, it meant having something on my face at all times, it meant looking older and smarter, and I guess looking smart is not cool when you're ten. It meant being less visible and less important in a way. At least that was how I felt, and it made me miserable.

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

So today's shoot didn't go quite like I expected... all because someone interrupted and pretty much overshadowed me for the last say... 50 pictures... I don't think that's fair at all, considering that she is not quite the supermodel type, she didn't wear 6 inch heels like I did, and she's also hairy. I mean, furry. Furry. I wasn't quite ready to share my blog with someone uninvited, but she was so sweet that I couldn't help it. Plus, she was unwilling to move out of the frame, so I didn't actually have much choice. Well, that's my luck.

Now, about the look. This is the ultimate budget look, dears. I actually spent less than a hundred bucks on everything I am wearing here, including my $80 shoes. I got the dress at a vintage store in Venice, CA for $12 (but I actually paid $6, because I brought one of my old dresses to sell), the bracelets were 3 for $2 at Urban Outfitters (I'm wearing only 2 of them here), the clutch was about $2 at a vintage store in my home town, Budapest and the earrings were actually free (with a purchase of 2 more items at H&M, otherwise $3). So let me know what you think. Does this look like a hundred bucks?
