How I Learnt to Love My Glasses

Glasses: Dior Homme

I was ten years old and the news turned my entire world upside down. After a routine eye examination the doctor casually told me that I had myopia and that I would need to wear glasses. I cried for days. That one sentence meant so many things: it meant having to give up the hope of ever being the cool girl at school (because cool kids don't wear glasses), it meant becoming that girl with the glasses instead of that pretty girl, it meant having something on my face at all times, it meant looking older and smarter, and I guess looking smart is not cool when you're ten. It meant being less visible and less important in a way. At least that was how I felt, and it made me miserable.

So today's shoot didn't go quite like I expected... all because someone interrupted and pretty much overshadowed me for the last say... 50 pictures... I don't think that's fair at all, considering that she is not quite the supermodel type, she didn't wear 6 inch heels like I did, and she's also hairy. I mean, furry. Furry. I wasn't quite ready to share my blog with someone uninvited, but she was so sweet that I couldn't help it. Plus, she was unwilling to move out of the frame, so I didn't actually have much choice. Well, that's my luck.

Now, about the look. This is the ultimate budget look, dears. I actually spent less than a hundred bucks on everything I am wearing here, including my $80 shoes. I got the dress at a vintage store in Venice, CA for $12 (but I actually paid $6, because I brought one of my old dresses to sell), the bracelets were 3 for $2 at Urban Outfitters (I'm wearing only 2 of them here), the clutch was about $2 at a vintage store in my home town, Budapest and the earrings were actually free (with a purchase of 2 more items at H&M, otherwise $3). So let me know what you think. Does this look like a hundred bucks?

Positano, Mon Amour

Positano is one of my favorite places in the world. This charming little town boasts one of the most beautiful coastal sceneries and some of the best food you can possibly find anywhere. The sea is warm, the streets are narrow and the air smells of lemons and history.

The Bluest Blue Sea

I'm posting from Ravello, a truly mesmerizing place... It's impossible to describe in words the beauty of this little town nestled in the hills above Italy's Amalfi Coast. It is simply enchanting. I hope our pictures can at least partially transmit the beauty of the scenery.

Barefoot Style

As much as I love shoes, I have to admit that going barefoot is almost as much fun as wearing a pair of Fendi sandals (such as these). So today, on the first day of my official vacation in the south of Italy I decided to pair this polka dot Guess dress with...absolutely nothing. Me and my husband decided to do a tour of the south, and right now we are staying in a charming little town called Noci in the Puglia region.  The scenery is breathtaking, the food is incredible, and the atmosphere is truly one-of-a-kind... did I mention the food is delicious? It's not that I want to torture you, but I needed to include a picture of the dinner I had at L'Antica Locanda restaurant which really impressed me with its genuine and masterfully prepared food. Restaurants like this are one of the reasons why we decided to come to Puglia.

Dolce Vita

Dear friends,
I have decided to post in two languages (English and Italian) from now on, since this wonderful country has been my second home for several years now. Those of you who speak Italian please pardon the mistakes I might make - Italian is my fourth language after Russian, Hungarian and English.

Battling the Heat in Linen

Florence welcomed me with scorching heat and deserted streets. People packed their children, dogs and picnic baskets into their cars and escaped to the beach or the mountains, or wherever else the temperatures are more tolerable. Life is on pause.

Summer In Malibu

This is my last post from LA (for the next few months, at least). We shot this in Malibu - the perfect location to sport a long, light summer dress. I like the contrast of the light fabrics and the heavy amber necklace, which was a gift from my lovely mother-in-law. I'll be back in Italy in a few days, can't wait to take some pictures with wonderful Tuscan backgrounds. See you soon!
