Best Ever Foolproof Pumpkin Bread Recipe

best pumpkin bread
Best pumpkin bread ever - if I do say so myself...

Today, for a change, I'm not going to talk about shoes and dresses and jewelry - as you might have guessed from the title of this post. In the picture above you can see my famous pumpkin bread that I have been making for years now and I have never ever screwed it up, not even the first time I made it, so believe me when I say that it is absolutely foolproof.

Christmas Day in Florence

duomo firenze

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you guys are enjoying the holidays and all the delish food that comes with them... I know I am! We went for a little walk in the centre of Florence today after lunch and we took these pictures right by the Duomo. I'm in love with those pastel pink and green colored stones, aren't you?

Black Tulle and Galaxy Print

A salmon pink cashmere sweater, a black tulle skirt and my new galaxy print Pekoe bag. A mix of fun feminine colors and textures for a weekday look I wore this Friday for a day in the city. I can't believe how lucky I am to be able to go bare legged in the middle of December! The weather has been treating us really nicely here in Florence and I certainly hope it stays that way...

Me, My Hat and I

florence merry go round winter fashion

Let me introduce you all to my new hat. It arrived at my door all the way from Israel and it is a courtesy of Justine Hats. It is no secret how much I love hats, but never before have I owned such an exquisitely handmade creation, made exactly to my specifications. I chose this rich burgundy color which I love for winter and it also perfectly matches my favorite wool skirt which I'm wearing in these pictures. I kept the rest of the outfit black to really make the color pop. Do you like it? Do you ever wear wear hats like this? I noticed that it turned quite a few heads as I was walking to a meeting in the center of Florence yesterday and Japanese toursits stopped to take pictures haha... I take it as a sign of approval ;)

What to Get Yourself For Christmas - Women's Gift Ideas

In my last post I (hopefully) gave you a few nice men's gift ideas, but now it's time to think about ourselves. It happens way to often that we don't buy something we really like, because it is not that useful after all and we can easily live without it. Well, ladies, now is the time to indulge in some "unnecessary" shopping and finally get that box of expensive truffles or those lime green pumps.

What to Get Him for Christmas

It's probably one of the biggest problems of the holiday season... I think we can all agree that it's extremely difficult to choose a great present for the men in our lives. Sometimes it seems like they have everything and what they don't have is way too expensive, or, even after years together we have no idea what is it they really want...

Dolly Curls and Big Pearls

As you can see, I'm wearing a new hairstyle today and this is about as radical as I get when it comes to changing my hair. I'm not going to pretend it was easy to force my hair into this shape and that it took me only 5 minutes, because it didn't. I actually had to sleep a night on soft rollers - and if you've ever tried those you know how "soft" and comfortable they are. Then, I had to walk around the house with a hood on like some wannabe rapper, because my mother told me to NEVER EVER let my husband see me with rollers on (all the Russian girls out there will understand me). At the end I put a can of hair spray in it, otherwise it just wouldn't hold. But no pain no gain, right? I was cleaning up the mess in my garage the other day and I found these decade-old rollers I used back in high school, so I though I'd give them another chance. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

Praio Blogger Fashion Contest 2014

Today I wanted to show you the sketch I prepared for the 2014 PRAIO Blogger Fashion Contest. I have been asked to take a look at Praio's spring/summer 2015 collection and come up with a piece that I think is missing. I decided to design this hoodie dress, which will become part of the collection if you help me win the contest by liking my sketch on Instagram.

Sweater Weather

Even though we are still waiting for winter to arrive here in Tuscany, we can't ignore the fact that it's almost Christmas and sweater weather is definitely coming. After a weird and incredibly rainy fall I can't wait to wear chunky knits, warm socks and soft scarves and drink hot chocolate with home made coffee cake. Here's hoping that the rain stops and real winter arrives.

Another Way to Wear Red

In my last outfit post I paired a red wool sweater with a yellow knit skirt for a fun and festive look. Today I chose this longer cotton version and toned it down by wearing it with an otherwise monochromatic outfit. This lovely black and white coat from Sheinside just came in the mail today and it was just what I needed to finish my look and make it weather-appropriate. How convenient. :)

Spiezia 100% Organic Skincare

I have to admit that one of the favorite parts of my job is testing fantastic beauty products and I'm sure many of my fellow bloggers would say the same thing. For the past few days I have been using the skin toner and face scrub sent to me by Spiezia Organics, a Cornwall-based beauty brand. Their products are handmade, 100% organic and not tested on animals, which sounds great - let's see how they work.

Red is the Color of Joy

There are two things I love about this sweater: its color and its shape. This garnet shade definitely makes a statement and I really like wearing dark tones of red in the fall. The shape is really interesting, as you can see: it is tight at the wrists and the waist, but it falls in soft drapes all around the body creating some really nice unstructured folds. It can also be worn upside down - with the waist part around the neck and the neck around the waist - so I can choose between a smaller and a wider cowl neckline. How cool is that? ;)

Evy Jo & Co. Review - You Need to Read This

Ok guys, so I have to start this review by saying that it is going to be 100% honest and that I don’t like deceiving people (especially not you, my dear readers), nor do I feel the need to exaggerate the merits of a product just because it was sent to me for free. So you better believe me when I say that Montreal-based skincare company Evy Jo % Co. is simply incredible and I am so happy it exists.

Dreams Etched in Stone

Today I’m going to make you guys dream. The holidays are right around the corner, which means fabulous parties, romantic dinners, cozy evenings by the fire, hearty meals, presents and lots and lots of sparkle. And what’s more beautiful and festive than the subtle shine of diamonds on your fingers or warm candlelight reflected in a myriad facets of colored gemstones around your neck…

Golden Hour

Fall is the best time to play around with different textures and layers. I knew I wanted to wear my cream leather jacket today, but I also knew it wouldn't be warm enough for end-of-November temperatures, so I added an extra warm layer of soft wool and fur underneath. The golden accessories add a touch of sparkle and so does my new iPad case which I absolutely love. The earrings were a surprise order from Oasap - meaning I ordered them not knowing what I would get - but I'm really happy with them. If you want to try your luck, click the link at the end of this post. Have an amazing Friday everyone!

Chili Pepper

It was one of those grey autumn days when it looks like it will start raining any minute, but it doesn't and the temperature is surprisingly mild and pleasant. Italians stay in on days like this and tourists probably scheduled their Uffizi visit for today, because we had Florence's famous Piazzale Michelangelo all to ourselves, which happens only every once in a... oh wait, it actually never happens.

It's All in the Bow

Being able to wear a crepe di chine shirt without a jacket in mid-November is one of the perks of living in Italy. I have just received this classic white number from Oasap, complete with a black and a white ribbon to wear around the neck. I prefer it with the black one right now, but in the summer it will look great with the white one, or even without a bow, just simply buttoned down.

It's been a while since I did a proper Insta-post, so to kick off the week here are some of my favorite moments from the past three months. Of course, it wouldn't be my Instragram feed if there weren't at least a few cappuccino and cat pictures in it... :) See you on Wednesday with a new outfit post!

Winter Skincare Products

The cold months are a hard time for our skin. It gets dry, irritated and weird because of the wind and the cold outside and the heating at home and sometimes we just can't figure out what to do with it. My skin is usually pretty normal with a slight tendency to impurities, but around this time of the year it gets completely out of control. I might get spots one day and dry and flaky skin the next, which is why I keep a wide range of skincare products at hand and experiment a lot... Our hair and hands also need special protection - remember to always wear gloves when it's cold outside, use hand cream every day and a hair mask once a week. I've selected a few natural products for this post that look really inspiring to me and that I wouldn't mind trying. Take a look and let me know which ones look good to you!

Tuscan Cocktail

Today I'm posting the pictures we took at a lovely even I've been invited to: the Tuscan cocktail hour hosted by the boutique Aesthetic Viale Della Repubblica in the city of Prato (I've already talked about this store HERE and HERE). I'm in love with their selection of beautiful dresses, coats, shoes, bag, jewelry and whatever else your heart might desire. For this occasion I chose a simple navy blue shift dress with a feather hem by Jijil, a pair of super high emerald green heels by Space Style Concept and a handmade necklace by Nunzi Girelli. What do you think?

Sweet November

Whenever I have to quickly put together a look, I go for black and beige - it's my safe combination. Black always looks good and appropriate and beige helps break up the monotony and creates a nice soft contrast. My "Puss in Boots" boots and my bandage pencil skirt are two of my favorite fall wardrobe staples, I wear them with pretty much everything. I think we all need to have at least a few of these safe and easy pieces in our wardrobes, they make life so much easier... especially on Mondays. Have a great week ahead everyone! :)

The Night Is Dark and Full of Terrors

This is definitely the most daring outfit I have ever posted on my blog and it took some courage to leave the house dressed like this, but I had this look in mind for Halloween, so nothing could stop me :) It's really strange how the human mind works... If I was wearing a one piece swimsuit, no one would consider my look particularly sensual or extraordinary, but since I wore a bodysuit covered by a mesh dress, it suddenly becomes a borderline fetish outfit. By the way, this dress look very normal and chaste on the hanger - which is why I bought it in the first place - but in the right (or should I say wrong?) light it becomes completely transparent, as you can see. I wore it only once before, to a party in L.A., and it has been packed away in my wardrobe ever since...until now.

Sky Blue and Beige

It's slowly but surely getting chillier here in Florence and all I want to do is wrap myself up in a cozy cardi and drink tea with butter cookies. Yum. Speaking of cozy sweaters, I got myself quite a few new ones, including this asymmetrical hem number from Choies which I'm literally wearing day and night right now. Today I wore it with a pair of bootcut jeans, suede ankle boots and a powder blue silk scarf. Taking these pictures was quite a challenge, because it was incredibly windy and I ended up with both my hair and my scarf flapping in my face... that is until we found this lovely wind-free location - the courtyard of an abandoned villa. They came out pretty decent in the end. What do you think? ;)

Halloween Special

Halloween has always fascinated me. As a born and raised European girl I first caught glimpses of it watching Hollywood movies and I thought of it as this mysterious and scary foreign holiday when kids get lots of candy and serial killers are most active. Needless to say, today my vision is a little different: I admire Halloween, because once a year it allows people to make fun of death in the most incredibly creative ways! Of course, Halloween would be nothing without the costumes, the candy and the decorations. Whether you prefer to celebrate with a fun outfit, a wild party, or cozy up with a good book and some treats, I’m sure you’ll love my selection of handmade Halloween favorites as much as I do.

Little Black Dress

This is the outfit I wore for dinner on Sunday night. A little black dress is truly a girl's best friend, especially when you have little time to get ready. Just throw on a few statement accessories and you're good to go! I really love this necklace made up of several different chains - it instantly adds a rock chic touch to anything. I have to admit one thing though: the cleavage of this dress wasn't originally this deep. There used to be a piece of black fabric covering it, which I promptly eliminated, because I thought it looked way too modest that way... What do you guys think? :)

Handmade Fall Essentials

Ok, so maybe these are not - strictly speaking - essentials, but they would definitely be wonderful additions to any girl's wardrobe (or home). I, for one, would love to own all of these amazing items I found on Etsy, from these gorgeous handmade fall shoes to the super cozy home décor. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I really enjoy browsing this website, because I never fail to find unique and beautifully made things from artisans from all over the world. I hope you like this selection and I'd love to know which items are your favorites!

Casual Warrior

Coat season has officially started here in Florence and even though it's not that cold yet and some tourists are still wearing flip flops, I prefer to keep warm, especially in the evening when it can get really chilly (Tuscany-chilly, not Canada-chilly, but still). In these pictures I'm wearing my brand new Choies coat, which slightly reminds me of the gear of Mongolian warriors with its leather straps and wide lapels and I really love its original style and how soft and cozy it feels.

Esqido Love

Esqido Voila Lash

You might remember this post where I showed you my very first pair of Esqido mink lashes. It was love at first sight and I am pleased to inform you that we are still going strong, two months and multiple wears - parties, meetings and photo shoots - later (Esqido lashes can be worn up to 25 times!). That first time I chose the BFF, an amazingly beautiful yet completely undetectable model, which I can wear any day of the week, morning or evening, but this time around I opted for two of the more daring Esqido designs: the Voila Lash (above) and the Lashlorette.

Beyond Organic

Hello ladies! Today I wanted to show you the newest arrival to my beauty product collection, the award winning rose and almond moisturising day cream by Beyond Organic Skincare. I'm a huge fan of natural and organic beauty products, so I was really excited to try this cream, and I must say it didn't disappoint.

Plum and Lemon

Purple and yellow are complimentary colors and as such they go really well together. Pairing such intense colors in one outfit takes a certain amount of courage, but once you get a hold of it, it's actually really fun. Fall doesn't necessarily have to be the time of rain and depression - just think of all the fun layers and accessories you can wear! For today's look I chose a lemon yellow pencil skirt (new in from, a purple buttonless cardi, a corset bodysuit and a black turban (also from Choies). I also wore my brand new bamboo prescription glasses by Takemoto (I do need them, in case you were wondering. I just wear contacts most of the time) and a pair of Fendi sandals. Only when I was going through my pictures did I realize how well the leopard pattern of the glasses goes with the tortoiseshell heel and straw details of the shoes. I guess I'm starting to develop a certain instinct for pairing things ;)

Floral Midi Skirt for Fall

This is my first outfit post - out of three - where I show you the super pretty things sent to me by Choies. I was really looking forward to receiving my package of goodies and when I finally got my hands on it, it was even better than I had expected! I've been looking for a pretty full midi skirt for ages and when I put on this dark green floral beauty here, I knew I had found The One. It is such a statement piece, that I decided to wear it with all black everything, including this floppy wool fedora, again, courtesy of Choies (you can actually get it for free now with any order over $79!). My husband totally loves it, and so do I, it's so stylish and ladylike, don't you find?

My Favorite Outfit

kovats anett, italian fashion blog

This is the kind of look I'm happiest wearing - it's ladylike, it's pulled together and, of course, it includes a pair of 4 inch heels. I have long been a lover of pencil skirts and pussy bow blouses, and when I wear them together I feel like it's my birthday. Add a blood red lipstick (Lancome Rouge Absolu) and a pair of classic Christian Dior mules in black patent leather and I can conquer the world ;)

Good Morning, Upper East Siders!

Never mind the rural setting of my pictures, this post was inspired by her majesty Blair Waldorf herself. My new bodycon sweater dress by Blackfive was perfect for the occasion: it is sexy, but in a good girl kind of way, and the pearls I wore with it and its detachable sparkling white collar add a touch of everyday elegance. I rarely wear red - there is no particular reason why, I just don't - but I fell head over heels in love with the rich wine red color of this dress. I can already see it becoming one of my go to outfits this season. In the colder months I'm planning to wear it with one of my wool coats - it will look gorgeous with black, white or navy blue. So let me know what you think! Do you love it as much as I do?

Natural Hair Makeup Brushes - How To Use

Until recently I have not realized the importance of a good set of makeup brushes. They really do make it much easier to apply make up and they also make the result look much more professional. I have to admit that when Francesca Larovere sent me this fabulous set of natural hair makeup brushes, I actually had to google how to use each of them correctly... It was definitely worth my time though, because I have learnt a few tricks and I can definitely see the difference in my make up: my skin texture appears more natural, my eyeshadows blend perfectly and my make up is much less messy overall. I decided to share my newfound knowledge with you, I hope you will find it as useful as I did.

Courmayeur Photo Diary Pt.3.

The Mont Blanc, Cocco and me

This third and last post of my vacation photo diary features a very special guest: my best friend, Cocco. He's been part of our family for almost a year now and even though he's weight (7 kg at the moment!) is making it increasingly difficult to carry him around, he always comes with us everywhere we travel. Those of you who follow me on Instagram might be familiar with the improbable positions he assumes on my lap while riding in the car... He loved staying at the Auberge De La Maison in Courmayeur just as much as we did, and breathing some fresh mountain air definitely did him good!

Mineralissima Mineral Make Up

When it comes to make up I am a very picky girl. I use more or less the same products all the time and I don't like to experiment a lot. With that being said, I was really excited to try the mineral make up sent to me by Mineralissima cosmetics, because they are made of natural ingredients, have no chemicals whatsoever and are not tested on animals - and I'm so glad I did, because they didn't disappoint.

Courmayeur Photo Diary Pt.2.

I'm definitely not the kind of girl that you will see in sweatpants too often, unless I'm at the gym, but when one is in the mountains I guess it counts as a sort of athletic activity, so this kind of attire might be excused, or even considered appropriate. For a day at the lovely Auberge De La Maison hotel in Courmayeur I wore a pair of harem sweatpants, my new Blackfive sweatshirt with a raised pattern and my trusty studded high-tops. I accessorized with a jewelled leather baseball cap I got in Ibiza a while ago, a classic Missoni scarf and my brand new leather and steel bangle by Italian brand Maineli. It's a very unique and modern design that goes well with both casual and elegant looks and which I'm really happy with. Also, it's made in Italy, which is always a plus. Let me know what you think about this unusually sporty look and have an amazing weekend!

Courmayeur Photo Diary Pt.1.

As I told you a few posts back, I'm spending a few days in Courmayeur, right at the foot of Mont Blanc, the tallest peak in the Alps. It's a truly magical place with breathtaking views around every corner. The warm hospitality of the staff in our hotel, Auberge de la Maison, is definitely making our trip even more memorable. Just imagine waking up in the morning to a breakfast prepared with amazing local ingredient, fresh bread and homemade pies filled with jam made with the fruit that grows in the garden right in front of you and eat it all while looking at the sparkling white snow on top of the Mont Blanc. Oh yeah...

Black Tee and Jeans

You can't really go wrong with a pair of skinny jeans and a black T-shirt. I always keep these pieces ready for busy or lazy days - you can basically accessorize this look with whatever you want, it's a perfect blank canvas. For a day in Forte dei Marmi I chose and oversized silk scarf in a vivid burnt orange color, a pair of everyday heels with a cleverly hidden platform and piled on some vintage jewelry. Let me know what you think and have a great weekend! ;)

Standing on the Rooftops

Oh the rooftops of Florence... They are a magical world on their own, the perfect setting for an urban fairy tale. Whenever I look down the city from a cozy little terrace like this one I wonder who the people underneath all those roofs are, what they are doing, what they dream of...

Back to School Treats

Vintage office chair, Liven UP Design

Whether you are going back to school or the office this September, it's always great to make the new "working season" a fresh start. Hopefully summer has filled you with energy and motivation and you're not too sad about vacation being over. I have lots of plans and new projects coming up, so I'm really excited for fall to start - even because I'm starting it with a trip to the Mont Blanc next week! Yay! In the meanwhile I prepared a selection of back to school essentials and all kinds of lovely things that you can (and should) treat yourself to before you bury yourself in work.

Colors of the Rainbow

kovats anett, italian fashion bloggers, blonde fashion bloggers

I'm not sure whether we're going to have any more proper summer weather this year, so this might be one of the last summery looks I publish for a while. I threw together four different colors in this outfit, but I feel it's OK since they're all of the same intensity - this is my general rule of thumb when combining different colors in a look.

Punta Ala Sunset

We took these photos last week in Punta Ala, one of our favorite vacation spots on the coast of Tuscany. Even though the weather wasn't typical for this time of the year - we had some cold night and lots of wind - we were lucky to capture this beautiful sunset over the Tyrrhenian sea. The dress I'm wearing is one of my summer favorites, I just love the large polka dots and the bubble hem and the super light cotton fabric is perfect for beachside walks. Do you guys like it?

Fabian Diamonds

The beautiful diamond rings you will see in this post were all created by Fabian Diamonds, a Los Angeles-based family business run by head designer John and his father Samuel Fabian. The gently curved lines and organic motifs of their jewelry were inspired by the beauty of nature - the feeling of infinity it gives you to watch the crashing waves of the ocean or the flight of a bird above the treetops.

Skater Girl

I have always loved pairing black with powder pink, because I really like the contrast of these two colors and how they complement each other in a strong, but feminine look. This pleated chiffon skater skirt is a comfortable choice for hot summer days, and even though I'm not the kind of girl who sacrifices looks for comfort, I definitely appreciate the latter. As usual, I kept my accessories to the minimum and wore only one statement piece: a pair of vintage cabochon carnelian earrings. What do you think of this look?
