A New Way of Life

The coronavirus situation is getting worse by the day, and it is affecting our lives in a way we never could have imagined. It has changed the way we work and study, the way we socialize, the way we shop and for many of us, even our plans for the future. It is devastating our economies and jobs, and its ripple effects can be felt on all levels of society.

Not surprisingly, in this situation fashion has taken a backseat, both in terms of shopping for new clothes and in terms of getting (or not getting) dressed up every day.

It feels a bit frivolous to even talk about it but then again, fashion has always been and will always remain part of our lives, in one way or another, so I was reflecting on how this crisis situation is affecting the way we approach fashion.

1. Dressing up less

With most formal events canceled, people working from home, and a feeling of impending doom in the air, it is only natural that we wear our fancy dresses and high heels a lot less nowadays. I have switched to a much more natural makeup look and put my hair up almost every day, which is highly unusual for me.

2. Focus on comfort

I have worn nothing but sneakers in the past few days, and leggings are my new favorite thing. In a situation like this many people, myself included, are just not willing to sacrifice comfort for fashion... and who could blame us?

3. Neutral colors

Black, gray, brown, beige and other calm neutrals feel relaxing and comforting right now. I've seen many people turn to this soothing, natural color palette.

4. Less shopping, more quality

And finally, in this time of economic uncertainty, we are buying a lot less stuff. We can still have fun with shopping (strictly online, of course), but this is a good time to reevaluate our shopping habits and make smarter purchases. Put quality over quantity, and invest in pieces that will serve your for many years to come!
